The idea of a community garden in Central Saanich has been gathering interest from the community since October 2019. This was stewarded by a group of dedicated community members who have been working together to realize this idea through countless meetings to ensure that the gardens centre accessibility, education and inclusion. We envision a vibrant, nurturing, multigenerational, and inclusive group of people coming together to cultivate an affordable, barrier-free, pleasurable, healthy, accessible and food secure community.
With the help of community partnerships, we strive to educate and empower people to successfully grow their own food year-round to build relationships within our community. As such, we aim to create a space that has both communal growing spaces and individual beds with some space dedicated for charitable donations to locals and community organizations in need.
To promote sustainability, we are dedicated to incorporating nature into the garden by using low impact environmental practices that foster reciprocal relationships with the land.
